DNA Sample – Insights from the past to be used in the present and to predict the future.
Memories can be preserved for a while, but can fade much like pictures that are dear to our hearts. It is not the case with genetic material. For the first time, an innovative technology enables the private storage of a DNA sample (genetic code) literally in our own homes. A once in a lifetime opportunity to make use of the past, for the benefit of future generations.
A DNA sample is a medically and genetically family treasure. Preserve this unique code of life before it disappears forever. The information extracted from a DNA sample can be used by future generations to expose life saving medical information.
The more medical knowledge expands, so do the possibilities of using the sample expand, and become even more relevant for the future.
What is DNA?
Each person carries about 20 thousand genes, most of them are identical from one human being to the next, and the differences between people ultimately stem from tiny differences.. The long strands of DNA molecules are present in the cells of our body and are organized in strands called chromosomes. The chromosomes carry a large quantity of DNA, most of it has not yet been deciphered.
Human beings have 23 chromosomes and there is no connection between the complexity of the organism to the number of chromosomes in it, a seahorse for example has 24 chromosomes. Chromosomes are organized in sections called genes, and if DNA was a cook book, then the genes would be the recipes.
The genes are written in Latin letters such as A,B,C, and instruct the cells in our body how to behave and which qualities they must present by combining the letters in a certain order. The correct composition of genes creates healthy cells, whereas mutations in the genes create in fact the various diseases.
Each child inherits various mutations from his parents, and his genetic material in fact creates something new based on the past. For better or worse. Sometimes the mutation is undetected and the body still knows how to interpret the gene in the proper manner, and at times the mutation has introduced a real change to the gene and then the chance of disease increases in accordance with the essence of the change..
About Memorial DNA:
DNA Memorial is an innovative company, established in 2012 in Canada, and its main development is the possibility to store the finished product, the DNA Sample, in room temperature with no special conditions, no cost and no expiration date. The DNA sample stays vital forever at simple home storage conditions.
“Aley Shalechet” is the exclusive agent of DNA Memorial in Israel.
Why preserve DNA?
Access to the family’s genetic album will enable doctors to diagnose genetic mutations over the years and to predict diseases in advance, including whether they will break out and when. Nowadays this ability is limited to a number of diseases and types of cancer, and with the development of medicine the knowledge increases and expands to other diseases and types of cancer each year. A DNA sample enables to individually tailor types of medications and therapies, and even genetic treatments.
It is possible to identify the chance for disease and “nip it in the bud”. For example, whoever has a chance to get some sort of cancer, hematological disease, heart or autoimmune disease, can begin with early diagnosis, control and perhaps even treatment. The client receives a report which presents the possibility of contracting diseases in percentages. Tracking inherited genetic mutations. Tracking a tendency for addiction and innate traits.
Producing a report by percentage of a genetic/religious/country of origin source can in some countries be used for immigration purposes, can help in cases of adoption and in tracking a family lineage. The medical approach has changed a great deal in recent years. Today they are aware that most of the diseases we contract originate from one genetic mutation or another, and the individualistic treatment which is personally adapted to the patient is derived from his and his family’s personal genome.
The traditional medical world is primarily based on statistics when today the trend is individual and all about the provision of preventative treatment. The cost of the product compared to the medical benefits that can be produced from it, is minor. The collection of DNA after death is a service given in Israel only by the “Aley Shalechet” company.
Many laboratories in the world do not accept the DNA of a deceased person, which makes this service unique on a global level as well. The service is divided into 4 different possibilities, and the clients pay only for what they are interested in receiving.
It is impossible to extract DNA after cremation, it is very complicated and nearly impossible, and that is why even if no formulated decision was reached regarding the matter, it is advisable not to hesitate, and to simply perform the test. It is possible to take a saliva sample and keep it for 30 days and only then decide whether you are interested in creating a DNA sample from it or not. The DNA of the deceased “lives” forever and constitutes an emotional living memento.
Perhaps in the future it will be possible to clone the DNA.
The process of removing a sample:
The process of removing a sample is simple, painless and non-invasive. It is possible to take a saliva samples or strands of hair provided the hair contains a follicle.
